How much does digital marketing cost in the Sutherland Shire?

Pricing is the question every business owner has before they pick up the phone. And digital marketing agencies are famously bad at answering it. Websites talk about "tailored solutions" and "custom packages" without ever naming a number.

This post does things differently. Here is what digital marketing actually costs in the Sutherland Shire in 2026, what you get at different price points, and how to decide what makes sense for your business.

Why pricing varies so much

Digital marketing covers a wide range of services: SEO, Google Ads, website builds, social media management, content creation, and branding. Each has its own cost structure. A one-off website build is priced very differently to an ongoing monthly SEO retainer.

The other major variable is who is doing the work. A large CBD agency with a team of 30 charges very differently to a specialist based in the Shire. Neither is inherently better value, but understanding the difference helps you ask the right questions.

What each service typically costs

SEO. For a small Sutherland Shire business targeting local customers, expect to pay between $1,200 and $2,500 per month for a quality SEO retainer. Budget providers at $500 per month are unlikely to produce meaningful results. Large agency retainers can exceed $5,000 per month but are rarely necessary for local businesses.

Google Ads management. Most specialists charge a flat monthly fee for managing your campaigns, typically $750 to $1,500 per month, separate from your ad spend. Be cautious of agencies that charge a percentage of ad spend, as their incentives are not aligned with yours.

Website design and development. A professionally built website typically costs between $2,500 and $12,000 depending on scope and functionality. Ecommerce sites sit at the higher end. Template-based builds are cheaper but come with limitations.

Social media management. Monthly management of two to three platforms including content creation typically ranges from $800 to $2,000 per month. Paid social advertising is charged on top of this.

Branding and identity. A complete brand identity, including logo, colour palette, typography, and brand guidelines, typically costs between $1,200 and $4,500 as a one-off project.

What to expect at different price points

At $1,000 to $1,500 per month for SEO, you can expect keyword research, on-page optimisation, monthly content, and basic link building. Expect movement in rankings within three to six months.

At $2,000 to $3,000 per month, you can expect a more aggressive strategy: deeper technical work, more content, stronger link building, and faster results in competitive markets.

At $500 per month or less, you are likely getting templated reports, offshore execution, and minimal strategy. The results reflect this.

How to decide what to spend

The right question is not "how much does digital marketing cost?" It is "what is a new customer worth to my business, and how many do I need each month to make this worthwhile?"

If you are a plumber in Caringbah and each new customer is worth $800 over the course of a year, and a $1,500 per month marketing investment delivers ten new customers per month, that is an excellent return. If you are unsure what those numbers look like for your business, that is the first thing to work out before spending anything.

A free marketing audit is a good place to start. It gives you a clear picture of where you are now, what is holding you back, and what a realistic return looks like before you commit. Get in touch to book yours.
